Withholding tax and, capital gains tax and some other taxes are often imposed on rental income deriving from the holding of real estate in a foreign country, or from the sale of property. Also, the ownership of real estate by individuals may result in death duty liabilities and some other similar taxes in the country where this real estate is situated, irrespective of the residence or domicile of the individual owner. For these reasons, it is common to hold foreign real estate through a tax haven or another company situated in a tax haven jurisdiction.
